El monitoreo de servidores o de los sitios web es un tema muy importante para conversar. Hoy en día existen compañías que brindan dicho servicio para poder conocer el uptime de nuestras aplicaciones y conocer cuando hay una baja de servicio. Varios de nosotros podemos crear aplicaciones web pero no estamos sobre el servidor revisando si está funcionando todo el tiempo y es ahí cuando recurrimos a un servicio de monitoreo online que nos avise cuando está caído. Por qué? Porque si nuestra aplicación web está caída significa que estamos perdiendo dinero así que cualquier inversión que hagamos para mantenerla arriba o bien avisarnos cuando no lo está, para tomar medidas rápidamente y volver a levantar el servicio.
Existen varias compañías que ofrecen estos servicios de monitoreo de sistemas, pero voy a contarles sobre Hyperic ya que son muy buenos en lo que hacen y ofrecen gran cantidad de productos y servicios para implementar. En principio tenemos dos opciones para elegir, una Enterprise y una Open Source con menos funcionalidades obviamente.
La opción Open Source se puede descargar gratuitamente del sitio, no vamos a contar con todas las funciones del Enterprise, pero si el Open Source te resulta interesante no dudes en invertir en la versión Enterprise.
Incluso con la versión Open Source podemos definir métricas, un dashboard customizado, alertas de disponibilidad, eventos, integración con nagios, etc. La opción Enterprise cuenta con excelentes adicionales como failover, remote control, report center, script actions, autenticación LDAP, roles, etc.
Con este producto no solo podemos monitorear nuestras aplicaciones y servicios web ya que podemos tomar datos de los servidores Unix, Microsoft, Linux, Correo, Bases de Datos, etc. por eso aplica a todos los administradores de sistemas que leen este blog. El rol de administrador de sistemas requiere tener un servicio de monitoreo interno.

Server Monitoring or web sites is an important topic for conversation. Today there are companies that provide this service to provide the uptime of our applications and to know when there are offline. Several of us can create web applications but we are not reviewing whether the server is running all the time and that’s why we take an online monitoring service alert. Why? The option Open Source can be downloaded for free from the site, we will not have all the features of the Enterprise, but if you find it interesting not hesitate to invest in the Enterprise version.
Even with the open source version, we can define metric, a customized dashboard, alerts, availability, events, integration with Nagios, etc. Enterprise option with excellent additional features like failover, remote control, report center, script actions, LDAP authentication, roles, etc..
With this product we can monitor our applications and Web services as we can take data from Unix servers, Microsoft, Linux, Mail, Database, etc.. therefore applies to all system administrators who read this blog. The Systems Management role require an internal monitoring service.
